Baseball to Host Tiger Camp at Oestrike Stadium, Aug. 3-4

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)— The Eastern Michigan University baseball team and head coach Jay Alexander are once again teaming up with Detroit Tigers pitching coach and former major leaguer Jeff Jones for the EMU Baseball Tigers Camp, Aug. 3-4, at Oestrike Stadium, for players ages 7-18. The camp is designed to teach baseball fundamentals such as hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and base running. The camp will feature stations and drill work for both sessions. Current Detroit Tigers Alex Avila, Brennan Boesch, and Austin Jackson are expected to make special appearances at the camp as well.
Jones was named the Tigers' pitching coach July 3, 2011, after serving the previous four seasons as the bullpen coach. He also spent the 1995 season, the final month of the 1998 season and all of 1999 as the club's bullpen coach, in addition to joining the major league staff in to serve the remainder of the season in that role on both September 7, 2000 and April 9, 2002. Jones served as the pitching coach at Triple A Toledo, a post he held from 2000- 06. He also served in that role with Toledo in 1990, 1993-94 and 1997-98. Jones was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round of the June 1977 draft, and his pitching career spanned 11 seasons (1977-87). Jones attended Bowling Green State University after graduating from Southgate High School in Michigan, where he led his team to the Wyandotte League title in 1974.
The camp costs $140 for both sessions, or $80 for each individual session. Prices are increased $15 after that date. Each player should be prepared to workout at Oestrike Stadium and will need to bring their own glove, baseball bat, helmet, baseball shoes, catcher's equipment (if needed), t-shirt and sweatpants/baseball pants.
