Harrison, a junior guard/forward, will sit out the 2011-12 season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Murphy has announced the addition of University of Wyoming transfer Daylen Harrison (Akron, Ohio-St. Vincent-St. Mary's) to the basketball program. Harrison will sit out the 2011-12 season and have two seasons of eligibility left for the Eagles.

“Daylen is a multi-dimensional wing player with skill and size,” Murphy said. “He is a good student that will make an impact in all areas of our basketball program.”

“There's a great new coaching staff at EMU and a great group of guys who want to win. I am really looking forward to getting started,” said Harrison.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Harrison played two seasons at Wyoming and played in 55 games, starting six times. He finished his Wyoming career with a 3.3 scoring average and a 2.1 rebound mark. He scored a career-best 17 points, making 6-of-7 shots from the field, 3-of-3 from the three-point line and 2-of-2 from the free throw stripe in a 67-66 win over New Mexico, Jan. 8, 2011. He also notched 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting versus the Jimmer Fredette-led BYU Cougars on March 5, 2011, during the Mountain West Conference tournament, and Harrison tied a career-high with seven rebounds in Wyoming's walloping of Western State on Dec. 17, 2010.

Prior to playing at Wyoming, Harrison was a three-year starter at St. Vincent-St. Mary's high school in Akron, Ohio, the same high school that produced NBA star LeBron James. As a senior, Harrison averaged 17.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He shot 49.8 percent from the floor with a 35.6 mark beyond the three-point line, helping lead his squad to the Ohio Division II State Championship where he netted 21 points en route to being named MVP of the Ohio State tournament. A Second Team All-State selection, Harrison received a number of accolades following his senior campaign, including the Akron Beacon Journal Player of the Year award and a Regional Top-Five All-Star selection by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Not only did Harrison shine on the court for the Irish, but he also excelled in the classroom with a 4.2 grade point average throughout his high school career. A member of the National Honor Society, Harrison was on the honor roll and received St. Vincent-St. Mary's Manhood Award. The Akron, Ohio native was also an active member in the community, where he volunteered for the Head Start program as well as his local church.

Harrison is the son of Rhonda and Chris Harrison and is a chemical engineering major. His father, Chris, was a standout basketball player at West Virginia Wesleyan before being taken as a sixth-round draft pick of the Utah Jazz in 1985.
