Ralws, Wishart Score Wins for Eagles at Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Despite a four-hour weather delay, the Eastern Michigan University women's track team wasn't daunted at the 26th Annual Miami Invitational, finishing fourth overall out of 15 teams and more than 900 total athletes (men's and women's combined) in Southwestern Ohio.

Only about 20 minutes into the meet, rain and lightning caused the extensive layoff before the teams were able to resume action. Asia Rawls and Shnell Wishart came away with the two EMU wins on the day as Rawls put together an impressive 1:00.87 time in the 400-meter hurdles, and Wishart, a freshman, leapt to a mark of 40-05.00 in the triple jump. Both of those marks are Mid-American Conference bests for the outdoor season.

The 800-meter run was another stellar event for the Eagles, as Lauren Quaintance and Beverly Elcock did what they have done so many times during their careers and took two of the top spots, finishing second and third, respectively, with times of 2:13.22 and 2:13.97.

Another second place finish was claimed by second-year speedster Ashlee Abraham as she ran an 11.94, the second-fastest time in the conference this year. Abraham was also the lead leg in EMU's second-place 4x100-meter relay team.

Shantavia Williams also competed in two races, posting top-five finishes in both. She placed fifth in the 200-meter run and third in the 400-meter distance.

EMU will be back on the track April 14-16 for the Mt. SAC Relays.
