After winning the doubles point, the Eagles could not hang on for the win

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- After losing in the No. 3 doubles match, the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team would rally to take the No. 1 and No. 2 matches for to earn the doubles point, but could not continue its momentum, ultimately dropping a 4-3 matchup to the Bowling Green State University Falcons, Friday afternoon, April 15.

The loss drops the Eagles to an even 10-10 overall and 3-3 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Falcons rise to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. The game, which was scheduled to be played outdoors, was forced inside due to 50 degree weather and, even moreso, the 20-30 mile per hour wind gust which the area was has been faced with all afternoon.

After the Eagles tool the opening point with the two doubles wins, Miriam Westerink and Celine Donnet could not follow it up with singles wins as they dropped the No. 1 and No. 6 matches, respectively.

Nino Mebuke, who paired with Westerink in the No. 1 doubles, evened the score at two points apiece when she earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maddy Eccleston. Mebuke's teammate Xu Chang would mirror that outcome after Bowling Green stole the point at the No. 5 singles position.

In the decisive set, Mariya Toncheva would battle Mary Hill into a third set after falling 1-6 in the frst set, and taking set two 6-3. Hill, however, outlasted the freshman Toncheva to score a third-round, 1-6 win, giving BGSU the set and the 4-3 match.

The Eagles will have short rest as the team travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to battle the Western Michigan Broncos. The match is set for 1 p.m.
