Eagles Make It Five Straight with 3-0 Win Over Buffalo

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's volleyball team cruised to another three-set win Friday, Oct. 21, at the Convocation Center. The Eagles took advantage of the Buffalo Bulls' struggles on offense to take their fifth straight match, and third straight in three sets.

The Eagles improve to 18-6 (6-3 MAC) and the Bulls fall to 9-14 (2-7 MAC).

Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) paced the EMU offense with 14 kills while maintaining a .345 attack percentage (14-4-29). Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) added eight kills, while Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) chipped-in with seven of her own. Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) and Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) each contributed five kills in the victory. Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) led the match with 32 assists, while Haley Stein's (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) 21 digs were a match-high.

The Green and White opened up the match with a 25-19 first set win. A slew of Eagles chipped-in offensively as Baker, Mason, Roback and Short each had a pair of kills. Iaquaniello led EMU with four kills in the opening set. Stein was the defensive leader in the opening frame with eight digs. Eastern hit .200 (13-6-35) in the opening set, while the Bulls hit just .075 (10-7-40).

The Eagles cruised to a 25-16 second set win to take a two-set lead. Iaquniello continued to lead the Green and White with six kills in the second frame. Short added three more kills for Eastern while Mason upped her assist total to 21 after two sets. The Green and White picked up the offense hitting .371 (15-2-35) in the second set, while Buffalo continued to struggle at the net hitting .070 (10-7-43) for the frame.

Eastern took the final set by a 25-22 tally. Iaquaniello and Roback were the offensive leaders with four kills each, while Mason continued to add to her assist total with 11 more. It was Eastern's defense that earned the final set win as they came out of the frame with six block assists to give the Eagles another three-set victory.

The EMU volleyball squad is back in action Saturday, Oct. 22, when it plays host to the Akron Zips for their annual Dig Pink match. First-serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
