CARMEL, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) fired rounds of 73 and 74 for an opening day total of 147 at the Hoosier Fall Invitational on the par-72, 6,196-yard Crooked Stick Golf Club course Monday, Oct. 17. The Livonia, Mich. native sits in second place, one stroke back of Notre Dame's Ashley Armstrong at two-over par 146 (75-71).
In the team standings, Eastern Michigan recorded a score of 609 (303-306) and in is third place behind Notre Dame (603) and No. 45-ranked Illinois (607). Nebraska carded a 613 to end the day in fourth place. Wichita State sits in fourth with a score of 618 while Penn State is fifth at 618.
It was a challenging day for nearly all 77 golfers as only Armstroing and Nebraska's Shelby Martinek recorded under-par rounds on the day.
Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) is in seventh place with a 150 (75-75). Sophomore Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) recorded a 156 (79-77) for 24th place. Sophomores Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) and Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) each managed a 159 for a tie for 39th.
Playing as an individual, junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) fired a 157 (77-74) and is in a tie for eighth.
The third and final round will continue tomorrow with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
