EMU was crowned Mid-Major Champions by CollegeSwimming.com for the second time

SOMERS, Wisc. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team has been named champions of the Eighth Annual CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Rankings, CollegeSwimming.com announced Thursday, April 8.

The Eagles, coming off their fourth consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship and 29th overall in the school's history, earn their first such honor in six years. Peter Linn's squad went 6-2 in the regular season this year with their only losses to Purdue and Ohio State of the Big Ten Conference. By putting together a perfect conference record of 3-0, they also extended their MAC and school standard of 53 consecutive MAC dual meet victories.

At the 2010 MAC Championships, which EMU hosted, the Eagles crowned seven individual conference champions and one relay champion en route to accumulating 773 team points, well ahead of second place Buffalo (613.5) and Missouri State (587).

Junior Justin Griggs was named the meet's Most Outstanding Swimmer after winning three individual events, the 50 and 100-yard freestyles and the 100-yard butterfly, while swimming on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team with teammates, Jacob Hanson, junior Keith Coghlan and sophomore Matt Zavislak.

Scott Murphy set a conference record in winning the 200-yard breaststroke, breaking his previous standard set at the 2009 MAC Championships. Hanson won two events, the 200 and 400-yard individual medleys and freshman Jeffrey Craig was crowned champion in the three-meter dive.
