Men's Swimming Puts Three On Academic All-MAC Squad

Scott Murphy, Gilles Renard and Carlos Nunez earn Academic All-MAC honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team placed three student-athletes on the 18-member Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, announced by the conference office today Tuesday, April 6.

Senior Scott Murphy was the lone repeat selection for the Eagles while sophomores Gilles Renard and Carlos Nunez were honored for the first time.

Murphy earned All-MAC honors after repeating as champion in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke and helping the 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams to second place finishes in leading EMU to its fourth consecutive and 29th MAC title overall. Murphy accumulated a 3.33 GPA in management while playing an intricate role during his four years in the Eagles' current streak of 53 consecutive MAC dual meet victories.

Renard, a physics research major with a 3.97 GPA, placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, fifth in the consolation final of the 500-yard freestyle, and helped the 800-yard free relay team to a third place finish at the MAC Championships.

Nunez, who has 3.76 GPA, is honored with his first Academic All-MAC selection after competing in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle as well as the 200-yard IM at the 2010 MAC Championships. He helped the 800-yard free relay team to a first place finish at the EMU Invitational and took third in the 100-yard free, second in the 200-yard free and helped the 400-yard free relay team to a second place finish in leading the Eagles to their 53rd consecutive MAC dual meet victory against Miami.
