CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University wrestlers Chris Jenkins (Tecumseh, Mich.-Tecumseh) and Aaron Sulzer (Cleveland, Ohio-Holy Name) were named to the 2009-10 Academic All-MAC Team, the conference office announced Thursday, March 18.
Jenkins, a senior with a 3.51 GPA in criminal justice, receives the honor for the third time including the 2006-07 and 2008-09 campaigns. He complied a 15-9 overall season record with a 9-6 mark in duals and a 2-2 effort in Mid-American Conference bouts. At 125 lbs., he was ranked as high as 18th in the nation by InterMat and was named MAC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 29, 2009. Jenkins participated in 15-of-23 regular season duals for EMU this season.
A redshirt freshman with a 3.78 GPA in accounting, Sulzer earns his first nomination to the Academic All-MAC Team. Sulzer competed in 20-of-23 regular season bouts at 157 lbs. and earned a 15-16 overall record with a 10-10 mark in duals.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
The 10-member team is normally voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics and academics. This year, however, no such vote was needed.
