The Eagle soccer program is looking to reload after another successful season with a highly touted freshman class
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team has announced its incoming freshman class for the upcoming 2010 season. Seven newcomers will join Head Coach Scott Hall and Assistant Joe Malachino on a squad that has recorded double digit wins in each of the last two seasons.
“Our excitement grows with the signing of these players,” Coach Hall said. “They are a very hard working, dedicated, committed and talented group of players that will complement the current players.”
Stephanie Clark (London, Ontario-St. Thomas Aquinas) is a forward/midfielder that played her club soccer with the North London Galaxy. She displays excellent athleticism that Hall looks forward to adding to the front line.
“Stephanie has a fantastic attitude and enthusiasm for the game,” Hall said. “She is an intelligent player that will compete for playing time right away.”
Allison Kaim (Palos Hills, Ill.-AA Stagg) will join sister junior Julie Kaim on the 2010 Eagles squad. Allison is a versatile player who played her club soccer with the Windy City Pride. She has experience at all three positions and displays a preparation and determination that Hall says will give her an edge over the competition.
“Allison brings a fantastic competitive attitude that will continue to challenge other to raise their game,” Hall said. “She is extremely composed on the ball under pressure and has the versatility to attack or defend. She also has great physical tools that complement her technical and tactical tools.”
Emily Kowalzyk (Tinley Park, Ill.-Victor J.) is a skilled defender who hails from Tinley Park, Ill. and will join her club teammate Allison Kaim on the 2010 Eagle squad.
“She reads the game very well and has a wide range of passing abilities,” Hall said. “Her tactical awareness and strength in the air will allow her to contribute early in her career.”
Julie Maheu (Oakville, Ontario-Holy Trinity), a forward/midfielder that played her club soccer with the Burlington Sting, impressed the EMU coaching staff with her creative attacking ability and talent to play both ways.
“Her work ethic and endurance puts plenty of pressure on her opponents,” Hall said. “She has the ability to be a playmaker as well as score goals.”
Elena Mudrak (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) is a goalkeeper that comes to Eastern Michigan in a unique situation, in that, she will have the benefit from learning under two of the best keepers in the Mid-American Conference in Maggie Manville and Monique Budani.
“Elena's fantastic enthusiasm and work ethic will allow her to excel under the guidance of Maggie and Mona,” Hall said. “Her athleticism and ability to communicate well will allow her to develop and compete for playing time. Elena has the charisma and spirit that will fit in well with her new teammates.”
Stephanie Pilarski (Royal Oak, Mich.-Marian) is a local product that played club soccer with Vardar. She's a very technical player that has a great understanding of the game and the ability to play forward and midfield.
“She can put defenders under pressure with her individual technical skills,” Hall said. “Stephanie has played at a high level which will give her confidence to compete and contribute in the MAC.”
Rachel Rye (Dearborn, Mich.-Edsel Ford) is another local product and a goalkeeper who played her club soccer with the Bloomfield Force. She's a goalkeeper with excellent shot-stopping ability and distribution.
“Rachel brings a fantastic attitude that will allow her to develop and grow as a player,” Hall said. “Her work ethic and willingness to learn will allow her to fit in well with our team.”
Hall and Malachino hope that these new additions will reload a team that enters the 2010 season having graduated its top scorer, Ashley Rodrigues and four-year starting midfielders, Katie Lozar and Deana Kinter, among others. The Eagles have competed for the MAC crown each of the past two years and look to be a mainstay atop MAC contenders for years to come.
