YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- It will be “Championship Week” on the Eastern Michigan University campus, March 2-7, as three Eagles' team contend for Mid-American Conference titles at home.

Head Coach AnnMarie's Gilbert's women's basketball team will host the University of Toledo, Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. with a chance at still gaining a first-round bye in the upcoming MAC Tournament.

Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey's men's basketball squad will host Central Michigan Thursday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center. If the Eagles win that game it will gain at least a share of the MAC West Division title. EMU, CMU and Ball State are all tied for the top with 8-7 records and if the Eagles win and Ball State wins at Western Michigan Thursday, EMU and BSU will share the crown. If BSU loses at WMU, Eastern will win the title outright and get a bye in the first round of the upcoming MAC Tournament, March 7-13.

BATTLE FOR THE TITLE DURING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK: When Eastern Michigan University hosts Central Michigan University Thursday, March 4, in the Mid-American Conference regular-season finale it will be for at least a share of the West Division championship. EMU, CMU and Ball State enter the final game of the regular season with identical 8-7 records.

Ball State University plays at Western Michigan University Thursday and if BSU wins that contest it will share the West Division title with the winner of the EMU-CMU game. If Ball State loses that encounter, the EMU-CMU winner will be the outright champion. If Ball State and EMU both win they would share the division crown, but the Eagles would get the No. 2 seed after beating the Cardinals in both matchups this season.

The MAC West Division champion will receive the second seed in the upcoming FirstEnergy MAC Tournament and will play the winner of the 7-10 matchup from the first round on campus sites to play in the quarterfinal round, Thursday, March 11, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS: With 15 Mid-American Conference games played, it all boils down to Tuesday's, March 2, regular-season finale for the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team. The University of Toledo invades the Convocation Center for the 7 p.m. contest, after having already secured the Mid-American Conference's West Division title and dashed Eastern's title dreams with a 62-48 victory over Ball State, Feb. 27, in the Glass City.

Coming off a 78-72 victory over Northern Illinois, Feb. 27, the Eagles enter the game with a mark of 20-7 (10-5 MAC) and a chance to still pick up a first-round bye in the upcoming MAC Tournament, March 6-13, if either Kent State University loses at Buffalo, March 2, or the University of Akron falls at home to Ohio, March 2. Meanwhile, Toledo is 22-6 (12-3 MAC) and has won five of its last six games to secure the second seed in the MAC Tournament.

MEN'S SWIMMING HOSTS MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming team will also be a big part of “Championship Week” as the Eagles play host to the 2010 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at Jones Natatorium Thursday-Saturday, March 4-6. All championship heats will beguin at 7 p,m, each of the three days.

EMU has won a MAC-record 28 men's swimming and diving titles, including the last three in a row.
