YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team put three players on the 2009 Mid-American Conference All-Academic team as announced by the conference office Thursday, Jan. 7.
Ashley Rodrigues, Katie Lozar and Chelsea Detrick were selected to the Academic All-MAC team for the 2009 season and deservedly so as each helped Eastern Michigan to an 11-4-6 overall record and a 6-1-4 mark in conference play towards a second straight MAC Tournament Semifinal appearance.
Rodrigues, a senior, was selected to the Academic All-MAC team for the second time in her career following a stellar season combined with a 3.26 GPA in health administration. She adds this award to a slew of honors in 2009 as she was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year in addition to first team All-Region, MAC All-Tournament team and All-MAC first team for the second time. She recorded a league- and career-high 10 goals and 21 points this past season while scoring a MAC-best six game-winning goals. Rodrigues finishes her career ranked in the top-three in school history in points (53), goals (21), shots on goal (71) and game-winning goals (9).
The senior Lozar earns her first such honor on the Academic All-MAC team following All-Region team, MAC All-Tournament team and first team All-MAC honors for the second time in 2009. She boasts a 3.62 GPA in physical education. The native of Broadview Heights, Ohio started every game for the Eagles this past season, scoring a goal and an assist. Her defense up the middle was key in helping shutout 10 opponents.
