HONOLULU, H.I. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team had three players selected to the 2009 Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team, as sophomores Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake), Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian), and Kyle Klein (Grand Rapids, Mich.-West Catholic) were selected to play for the home team Makai Islanders Saturday, July 4, in the HCBL All-Star Game. All-Star balloting was done through voting of league coaches, HCBL personnel and local MLB Scouts.
Lewis, the reigning HCBL Pitcher of the Week, has had a stellar summer thus far for the Waimea Waves, recording a 2-0 mark with a team-best 1.32 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched. Lewis was named HCBL Pitcher of the Week after yielding no runs on three hits over seven innings, while fanning five batters to earn the victory in Waimea's 3-1 win over the Oahu Paddlers, June 25. Lewis' Waves currently stand atop the HCBL standings with a 13-5 record.
Klein has started 13 games for the Waikiki Surfers this summer and is batting .321 with 11 runs scored and seven RBI, while Ohrman is batting .268 with 13 runs scored, nine RBI, and 12 stolen bases so far this summer.
Saturday's All-Star game is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Mililani High School in Mililani, H.I.
