ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up the regular season at the Len Paddock Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan April 8-9.
The Eagles sent a small squad over to Ann Arbor and senior Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.) hit an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the pole vault, 12-07.50, an outdoor personal-best that was good for a fourth place finish. Freshman Ashley Wartley (Ypsilanti, Mich.) also had a life-time best mark, running 11.98 seconds in the 100-meter dash to place second. She is the only Eagle so far this season to run under 12 seconds.
Beverly Elcock (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) hit yet another NCAA mark in the 800-meter dash, running 2:09.53 to finish second.
In the high jump, Jasmine Gates (Virginia Beach, Va.) cleared 5-05 to place third, while Angela Scarber (Waterford, Mich.) threw a mark of 42-11.50 to place seventh in the shot put.
Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.) and Christina Farrow (Detroit, Mich.) finished 6-7 in the 400-meter dash with times of 57.06 and 57.13, respectively.
Dejaa Shearer (Canton, Ohio) placed in two events, finishing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.53 and eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.30 seconds.
The Eagles will travel to Akron, Ohio, May 14-16, for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
