Senior wins the honor for second straight season

YPSILANTI, Mich.- Eastern Michigan University senior swimmer Don Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary) has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District IV first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today, May 21. This is the second consecutive season that Ellison has earned the honor, as he was selected to the Academic All-American third team last year.
 
With his selection to the District IV first team, Ellison will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration. Ellison boasts a 3.97 GPA as a physics major.
 
Ellison helped lead the Eagles to their third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship this past season, taking home first team All-MAC honors for the second consecutive year. He was also selected to the Academic All-MAC team for the third season. The senior was tabbed as the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week after helping EMU secure its 28th overall title.
 
At the MAC Championship meet, he swept the IM events, winning both the 200 and 400 IM. He took runner-up honors in the 100 breast while helping the 200 and 400 medley relay teams, as well as the 800 free relay team to MAC titles.
 
To be eligible for the Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 GPA. In addition to this, the student-athlete must be an integral part of the team and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests on the year. At-large men's sports are swimming and diving, wrestling, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, fencing, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
