YPSILANTI, Mich. —
New Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Ron English traveled the entire country and Canada to build his first recruiting class for the Eagles.

English, named to the head coaching position Dec. 22, 2008, wasted little time putting together a full coaching staff to hit the recruiting trail in late December and January and the brevity paid off in an outstanding group of 22 recruits signing the national letter of intent to join the Eagles in 2009.

“I thought our entire staff did a good job in a short period of time to put together what I think will be a very productive group of players,” English. “I think that a big majority of these recruits will have an immediate impact on the success of our program.”

Included in the recruiting class are four players from the state of Michigan, three each from Ohio and Illinois, two apiece from Texas, Indiana, California and Canada, and one from the states of Florida, Washington D.C., South Carolina and North Carolina.

The Class of 2009 is heavy on the defensive side of the ball with 15 players signed, including five linebackers, five defensive linemen and five defensive secondary candidates. There are seven recruits on offense, including two quarterbacks, two tight ends, two wide receivers and one offensive lineman.

English also took advantage of the junior college ranks, signing three players from the College of the Sequoias, and another from Palomar J.C.
