Eagles Trail Boilermakers After Day One
Emig and Hanson pull in wins for Eastern, but Purdue proves tough after day one.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each trail Purdue University after day one of a two-day meet at Jones Natatorium on the campus of EMU. Swimmers and divers will hit the water for day two beginning at noon on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The men trail the Boilermakers 130-40 heading into the second day. Freshman Jacob Hanson pulled in the only win for the Eagles, swimming the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 50.70, nearly two seconds faster than Andre Koop (52.10) of Purdue.
Meanwhile, Eastern’s Briana Emig pulled in the lone win for the women. The freshman continued her hot start Friday night with a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle event. She touched the wall with a time of 10:10.95 which was nearly nine seconds faster than Purdue’s Amy Gutwein (10:19.35). Purdue leads the Eagles 133-37 heading into day two's action.
The Boilermakers took home wins in 18 of 20 events on the first day, nine by each the men and women to give them considerable momentum heading into the second day. Purdue’s men and women, who appear to be favorites in the Big Ten after an early undefeated start, have not slowed.
The Eagles will try to defend their home turf Saturday as day two action begins at noon at Jones Natatorium.
