YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Coming off an idle week, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team is back in action Saturday, Oct. 17, when it sends runners to compete in two separate races.

Several runners will travel down the road to Bowling Green, Ohio for the Falcon Invitational, where the women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. The Eagles will also compete in the 6,000-meter Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terra Haute, Ind. at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course at 12:55 p.m.

Heading to Indiana to compete in the Pre-Nationals Invitational are freshmen Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson), Tiffany Kincaid (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston), Rachel Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Christina Farrow (Rochester Hills, Mich.- Renaissance), sophomores Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven), Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen), and junior Beverly Elcock (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Northrop). Senior Jackie Ellis (Lebanon, Ohio-Lebanon-Hope College) will compete in the women's open race, which is the final race of the day and is slated to begin at 2:10 p.m.

Competing in the Falcon Invitational is sophomore Morgan Churchwell (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central), freshmen Beth Zimpfer (Maplewood, Ohio-Jackson Center), Cassie Coffman (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea), junior Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), and senior Megan Flewelling (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Power Catholic).

The Eagles haven't competed in the Falcon Invitational since the 2007 season, when the team finished eighth (out of 18) with 200 points.

At the Pre-Nationals Invitational last year, the Eagles finished 37th as a team with five runners finishing with personal best times.

Calka has paced the Eagles in all four races this season running in the top position. At the Notre Dame Invitational, Oct. 2, Calka was the first EMU harrier to cross the finish line, taking sixth in the gold division with a time of 17:56.

Hollinger-Janzen has finished in the second position behind Calka in three out of four races so far this season. At the Notre Dame Invitational, however, she was the third EMU harrier to cross the finish line. Hollinger-Janzen placed 34th with a time of 18:43, while Elock finished one spot and two second ahead of Hollinger-Janzen, taking 33rd with a time of 18:41.

The Eagles are back in action in Dexter, Mich. when they host the EMU Fall Classic.
